Avengers. [Yeah, I’m playing hardball. Sorry. XD]
My Mouth Is Open, I See with My Eyes by smilingskull - Teddy/Billy, Kate, Tony/Steve, Shannon, Sharon. Kate Bishop and Billy Kaplan have a standing lunch date, every Wednesday at a cute little café down in the Village. They sit at the same table every time, outside on the patio but under trees.
Without Irony & Per Expectations by tsukinofaerii - Tony/Steve. An AU of the events covering SIEGE and immediate after. When Tony is rebooted after deleting his brain, he’s left with no memory of anything, and lingering programs that keep him from finding out everything he missed. Sometimes you just need to start over, but there’s always a place in every plan for a backup.
(I almost cheated and listed X-fic here, but I remember really liking:)
Strobelight Serenade by panicandstartariot - Tony/Steve, ensemble. The Avengers get shanghaied into chaperoning a high school prom. In Steve’s opinion, things go downhill from there, but Tony’s determined to save the night. With the Macarena.
Complete Avengers/Sailor Scouts set by Autum Sacura!
PROPS. This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
Slightly more coherent summary of the Marvel conference call with Kelly Sue DeConnick, Stefano Caselli, Lauren Sankovitch, and Tom Brevoort.
DeConnick revealed the lineup as Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Spider-Woman, Captain America and Captain Marvel. Of the last she said, “I had the option to pick…and if I’m deciding, I had a slot for this character as well.”
I am so excited for this book—easily as excited as I was for the new Gambit series, definitely reaching the levels of anticipation I had for Captain Marvel. I haven’t read any of the main Avengers titles for over a year, but now one of my absolute favorite writers is taking over the reins of the Avengers book most removed from events and crossovers. (I’m also thrilled that Carol is going to be on the team!)
This announcement also hit just at the right time; I’ve been pulling Iron Man for ages and Kieron Gillen is another of my favorite writers, but I finally decided I couldn’t spend my money on a book illustrated by a man who occasionally traces porn models for his superheroines. Avengers Assemble does a lot to ameliorate that disappointment.
And on a purely selfish note, I’m psyched to see Carol and Jessica co-starring in a book written by someone who seems pretty fond of their relationship. Also Tony and Steve, but mostly: Carol and Jess.
Kelly Sue, writing an Avengers book, with Jessica Drew on the team? Consider this ADDED to the pull list!
this is so awesome because I was wondering what to do with my Iron Man money because even though I love Kieron Gillen and Tony Stark I’m not sure it’s worth suffering through Greg Land’s pornfaces
BUT NOW I’LL BUY THIS INSTEAD
Breaking news: It was just announced on the Walt Disney Investors Conference Call that Joss Whedon will return for The Avengers sequel. Whedon is signed to both write and direct the upcoming sequel. Disney confirmed that Whedon is also involved in the development of the long-lead ABC live-action television series which will be set inside the Marvel cinematic universe. More info as we get it.
One of the things I liked most about this film is how Black Widow’s fight scenes were written and choreographed (and acted!). In IM2, Natasha’s waif-fu seems effortless, but in the Avengers movie she looks like a woman who’s actually throwing punches, who’s actually taking punches, instead of some kind of autobot marionette flipping around without actually exerting herself. She still clearly outclasses everyone in the room, but she grunts and makes faces and sweats while she’s fighting—like a person, not a doll.
